Abstract

This study was an attempt to investigate the influence of an intertextual reading-based instruction on the reading comprehension of Iranian EFL students. To this end, 51homogenous EFL Students were selected as the subjects of the study and were divided into two groups of experimental and control by utilizing a version of TOEFL test. The experimental and control group went under a twenty-hour instruction—the experimental group using an intertextual reading-based instruction and the control group through a traditional approach. The study revealed that those students who received intertextual reading-based instruction had a better performance on reading comprehension test. The study also showed that females performed better than males after they were taught by intertextual reading-based instruction.
